QREATA / Features

Record your Mac screen and webcam together, then fix the layout later

Qreata records the screen and the camera at the same time and stores them as separate tracks. The camera is not baked into the screen image, so you choose its layout after the take instead of before it.

The short answer

Qreata records your Mac screen and webcam at the same time, along with microphone and system audio, as four separate tracks in one project. Because the camera is its own track, you can change its layout, shape, size, position and background after recording, for the whole project or for one fragment, without redoing the take. Export is a single H.264 MP4 at up to 4K; the beta can’t export the camera and screen as separate files.

Use it when

You want your face in the video and you want to decide where it goes after you have seen the take.

  • You record demos, tutorials or updates where the viewer should see who is talking.
  • A camera bubble has covered a button before and you only noticed after recording.
  • You want your voice and the app’s sound on separate controls.
  • You deliver one finished MP4.

It won’t help when

You need the raw sources, live output or a platform Qreata doesn’t run on.

  • You need camera and screen as separate files for another editor. The beta has no raw-track export.
  • You need to live stream. Qreata records; it doesn’t broadcast.
  • You need noise removal on the microphone. Qreata has no noise reduction.
  • You record on Windows or an Intel Mac.

How Qreata records screen and camera at the same time

One recording produces four tracks in the project: screen, camera, microphone and system audio. System audio is always captured with the screen, and the camera can be switched off. Before recording, the Active source check shows live frames and audio for each source, so a camera pointed at the ceiling or a silent microphone is visible before the take. While it runs, Qreata watches disk space and stops the recording automatically before the disk fills.

You pick one capture target: Display, Window, Application or a preset Area, on one display at a time. You can pause and resume, or use Add clip to record another clip into the same project, so an interrupted take doesn’t have to start again from zero.

Example: the webcam covers the Save button at 2:40

You record a 5-minute demo with your camera in the frame. On playback you see that at 2:40 the camera sits on top of the Save button you are telling people to click. If the camera were flattened into the picture, the fix would be a new take. With separate tracks it is an edit:

  1. Record screen and camera together as usual. Don’t rearrange your app to make room for the camera.
  2. Watch the take in the editor and note where the camera hides something. Here it is the Save button at 2:40.
  3. Change the camera for that fragment only: move it to the opposite corner, make it smaller, or hide it on that segment. The other 4:30 keeps the layout you recorded with, and the screen track is not affected.
  4. If the camera is in the way all through the video, change the layout for the whole project: overlay, camera on the left, or camera on the right.
  5. Replay the whole video at the size viewers will see. A new position may cover something else at another moment.
  6. Set background, padding and corner radius so the frame looks deliberate.
  7. Export the MP4. The same 5-minute take, with the Save button in view.

What you can change after recording

Separate tracks decide what is still open after you stop recording. Anything in the bottom two rows has to be right in the take itself.

Should the webcam be in the video at all?

Show your face when the viewer benefits from knowing who is speaking. Leave it out when the interface needs every pixel.

  • A reply to a customer or a product update for your team: camera on. It reads as a message from a person.
  • A dense settings page, a spreadsheet or code: screen and voice only. The camera competes with small text.
  • A product demo for a landing page: camera on if you are the founder or the expert, off if the product should carry it.
  • Not sure: record with the camera. You have the track, so you can keep it for the intro and hide it on the segments where the interface needs the room.
  • A messy room behind you: blur the camera background or replace it with a color in the editor.

Limits of screen and webcam recording in the beta

The beta exports one finished MP4. It can’t export the camera and screen as separate raw files, and it has no noise reduction, no SRT or VTT caption files (captions can be burned into the video) and no 60 fps: recording is always 30 fps. It captures one display at a time and doesn’t record an iPhone or iPad. Qreata runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 Sonoma or later only.

To check it against your own setup, spend 10 minutes in the 7-day trial: record a 1-minute walkthrough with a control near the edge of the screen, move the camera for that one fragment in the editor, export, and watch the MP4 where you would publish it.

Questions worth asking

Can I record my screen and webcam at the same time on a Mac?

Yes. Qreata records screen and camera together, with microphone and system audio, as four separate tracks in one project.

Can I change the webcam layout after recording?

Yes. The camera is a separate track, so its layout, shape, size, position and background are editable in the project, for the whole video or for one fragment, and the screen recording stays as it is.

Can I export the webcam and the screen as separate files?

No. The beta exports one H.264 MP4. Tracks are separate inside the project for editing, but raw-track export isn’t available yet.

Does Qreata record system audio along with the microphone?

Yes, always. System audio is captured with the screen as its own track; there is no switch and no per-app picker. Microphone and system audio each have Mute and a 0–200% Volume, so you balance or silence them after recording.

Do I need an account to record screen and camera?

No. Recording in Qreata needs no account. The trial is 7 days with every feature, and the Personal license is $49 once.

MAKE THE NEXT TAKE COUNT

Run the ten-minute test.

Record a two-minute walkthrough and make one mistake on purpose. Select that range, use Replace Take, and export the MP4. The trial is the full app for seven days, with no account. If it earns a place in your workflow, it is $49 once: a lifetime license with no subscription.
