Qreata vs OBS: capture control or a repairable Mac demo?
For a software walkthrough, the choice is what happens after you stop recording. OBS gives you scene and source control; Qreata keeps the take in a local project where you can correct a time range and export again.
7-day trial · $49 once · no subscription · Apple Silicon · macOS 14+The short answer
Choose OBS for free recording, streaming and complex scene setups, especially across operating systems. Choose Qreata on an Apple Silicon Mac when you want recording, editing and a replacement take in one local workflow. Qreata costs $49 once for three Macs; it cannot import an OBS recording or stream live.

Prices are US list prices before tax and can change; some vendors show local currency. Where a vendor’s documentation is silent on a capability, the cell says so instead of guessing.
A wrong click at 2:10: plan the repair before recording
Suppose a three-minute support video contains a wrong click and sentence between 2:05 and 2:20. With an OBS recording, plan the repair in your post-production editor. Keep the original recording and any separate audio tracks so the editor has the material you need.
In a Qreata project, select the affected range and use Replace Take, labelled Rerecord in the editor. The range must stay within one segment. A shorter replacement is rejected; a longer one is trimmed to the selected duration. Check the join before exporting.
Audio capture and audio editing are separate decisions
OBS can capture desktop or per-app audio on supported modern macOS setups. Its multitrack guide explains source-to-track assignment and warns that ordinary players play only one audio track at a time. Prepare a playback mix as well as separate tracks if you need both.
Qreata keeps microphone and system audio as separate internal tracks with independent mute and volume. They are mixed into the exported MP4; separate-track export is not available. Neither a moving meter nor an editor preview replaces listening to a saved sample.
Switching tools: start with a new short recording
Qreata does not import MP4 or MOV files. Your existing OBS library stays in an editor that can open those files; buying Qreata does not turn them into editable Qreata projects.
For the next walkthrough, record one short task in Qreata, repair one intentional error and export. If you need a live broadcast, keep OBS. If the real bottleneck is updating a saved explanation, compare the repair and review steps rather than capture quality alone.
